The church has lost her fire, and we need it back. We need the five fold. ” And He has appointed some with grace to be apostles, and some with grace to be prophets, and some with grace to be evangelists, and some with grace to be pastors, and some with grace to be teachers. And their calling is to nurture and prepare all the holy believers to do their own works of ministry, and as they do this they will enlarge and build up the body of Christ.” Ephesians 4:11-12
Somewhere along the way, we lost our way. Believing that our main purpose was to go forth to the ones rejecting Jesus and pursuing them with all of our energy. We have watered down and twisted the message of the gospel. Since when does Jesus chase?
We feel uncomfortable with tongues that are too loud, prophetic words that are too frequent or radical, and we might ask God to heal someone but we don’t have the faith to heal them in Jesus name. So many times we fear the prophet will strip us bare, burning our flesh with his/her words of truth… but isn’t that the point?
God is Holy.
He wants to burn away every part of us that isn’t so that we can be intimately drawn into his innermost heart.
No fire. No intimacy.
That is the cost. We are supposed to count it. We are supposed to consider it. We aren’t supposed to be promising people an easy life and forgiven sins without also talking about submitting ourselves to God’s all consuming fire, and carrying our cross. That is milk. This is the time for meat.
Where is the power we are called to have? It is muzzled. Where is our tongues and interpretations, our healings, our words of wisdomand knowledge? Where is our prophetic power? Where are we casting out demons and warring against the powers of darkness that are just as real… more real than the device you are holding to read this word?
The time has come to move past five minute devotions and weekly church services. We need lamps that are filled with oil. We need to be close enough to God that we are absolutely overcome at his holiness. We need to be filled with the spirit and we need the miracle power that is a natural result of his real infilling. We need to be working out our salvation with fear and trembling as we look at the massive holiness of God.
We have become lukewarm. We have put a governor on how much we are “comfortable” letting Holy Spirit do.
It starts with opening ourselves up to God… asking for our unholiness to be burned away, so that we can be intimate with him, understanding his heart and his strategies. He has called us to something bigger… to dance before the Lord like David. To step forward.
Church… if we are going to reach the lost, we need to find again the holiness of God and the power we were called to and live in it without inhibition. We need to be radicals for Jesus.
Anything else is too weak to convince this generation, who are seeking for spiritual power wherever they can find it.
Wake up church. Leave no room unscathed by the holy, beautiful fire of Holy Spirit. Be consumed. Fill your lanterns.
